Citizen Bull To Retire To Coolmore America

Coolmore America is delighted to announce that Citizen Bull will take up stud duties in 2026 at its base in Ashford Stud in Kentucky following his final start in the Gr.1 Breeders’ Cup Dirt Mile.

Citizen Bull got his career off to a flying start with an easy win over 5½ furlongs on the main track at Del Mar in mid-August of his 2YO season.

Following his impressive debut, trainer Bob Baffert pitched him straight into Grade 1 company three weeks later in the Del Mar Futurity, where, from the widest gate, he ran a hugely promising third.

Delivering greatly on the potential shown in the Futurity, Citizen Bull subsequently notched a pair of Grade 1 victories with dominant successes in the American Pharoah Stakes by a comfortable two lengths and again by a similar margin in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile, to secure his Champion 2YO status.

His 3YO campaign saw him add two further runaway victories to his resume with an almost four-length win in the Gr.3 Robert B. Lewis Stakes and a 5½-length win in the Shared Belief Stakes.

“The only Eclipse Award-winning 2YO Male by Into Mischief, Citizen Bull will make a fantastic addition to our roster,” commented Ashford Stud’s Dermot Ryan. “He is from that very potent Into Mischief / Distorted Humor cross that has already given us the proven Grade 1 sire Practical Joke, and hails from the family of up-and-coming young Ashford sire Tiz The Law"

Following his Shared Belief Stakes success, trainer Bob Baffert commented that “He was back to a distance he really loves. The Breeders’ Cup Dirt Mile is where we will be pointing.… You saw the champion Citizen Bull today.”

A stud fee for Citizen Bull will be announced in due course.
