Echo Sound (Echo Town) Wins Miss Preakness

Echo Town Filly Wins G3 Miss Preakness

Echo Sound (3f Echo Town x Eagle Sound, by Fusaichi Pegasus) became her sire’s first graded stakes winner Friday when she won the Grade III Miss Preakness Stakes.

Looking to bounce back from her first career loss last out when making her graded stakes debut in this six-furlong dirt race, Echo Sound broke sharply and immediately went to the early lead. A few other runners decided to challenge her quickly and Echo Sound was happy to give it up to sit just behind them.

Racing wide throughout the run, Echo Sound used that to her advantage to fly up the outside in the stretch and easily take the lead. There were no serious challenges for her to face late as she eased to a two-length win at the line over Practical Joke’s You’ll Be Back.

Trained by Rusty Arnold for Gabriel Duignan, Echo Sound has won four of her five starts – including two stakes – with her only loss being a second in the Fern Creek Stakes. The earner of $363,745, Echo Sound was bred by Springhouse Farm, Vision Thoroughbreds, and Bruce and Patricia Pieratt.

Echo Sound is one of two stakes winners and three stakes performers out of the winning Eagle Sound, who also produced Grade II winner Pick of the Litter among her nine winners. The mare is a half-sister to Grade II winner Wild Syn and to the granddam of Grade I winner Competitive Edge. The page also includes Grade I winners Spun To Run, Awesome Humor Emcee, and Constitution.

Echo Town is the sire of four stakes performers from his first crop with two stakes winners as well.
