Instant Replay Adds Super Derby to Winning Resume

It was a third stakes victory on the year for Instant Replay (3c Maximum Security x Academy Gal, by Medaglia d’Oro), who took home the Super Derby on Saturday night.

Instant Replay was more than happy to take up the back spot in the 1 1/8-mile race about five lengths off the leader. It wasn’t until the far turn that the colt started moving past horses as he raced six wide into the stretch.

There was still work to do at that point, but the leader had a target on his back and Instant Replay was zeroed in. It took until the line, but Instant Replay was a head in front as the race ended.

Instant Replay has won four of his six starts this year and was third in the Grade II Louisiana Derby as well.

Trained by Brad Cox for Wathnan Racing, the Gary and Mary West-bred has won his five races at five different tracks.

Instant Replay is one of two winners out of a granddaughter of stakes-placed Flashy Gal. That mare is one of three stakes performers out of the stakes placed Oneofacat as well. Oneofacat is out of stakes winner Beware Of The Cat, who produced six stakes performers, including Grade I winners Editor’s Note and Hold That Tiger.

Maximum Security is the sire of four stakes performers in 2025 and has one on offer during this year’s Keeneland September Yearling Sale over the next two weeks.
