Mendelssohn Son Romps in Oaklawn Park Stakes

Ruis Racing homebred Wendelssohn (4c Mendelssohn x Gangbusters, by Broken Vow) registered his first career stakes victory on Saturday with a win in the Eclipse Overnight Stakes at Oaklawn Park.

The six-furlong dirt race saw Wendelssohn happily race just a length off the leader early on. Around the turn, that quickly changed when he mounted his challenge and entered a duel that lasted until the stretch.

That runner was left in the dust when Wendelssohn showed why he was a heavy favorite with an eight-length victory.

The Chris Hartman trainee was registering his seventh top three finish in 13 starts overall for $350,013 in earnings.

Wendelssohn is out of a three-time winning half-sister to three-time Grade I winner Mind Control and Grade I placed Goddess of Fire among the five winners out of stakes winner Feel That Fire.

The sire of the most cumulative winners of any fourth crop sire, Mendelssohn has sired 16 stakes winners and 43 stakes performers. This year, Mendelssohn leads his generation with 11 stakes performers, 43 winners, and 54 wins between them.
