G3 Winning Return for So You Think Stayer
Bob and Sandra Peters homebred gelding Diamond Scene (6g So You Think x Jewelled, by Zabeel ) was second in the $1million Group II WATC Perth Cup on New Year’s Day and showed he would be a force over this summer carnival when resuming from a spell to win the Group III WATC Eurythmic Stakes (1400m) at Ascot on Saturday.
Trained by Michael Grantham and ridden by Clint Johston-Porter, Diamond Scene loomed up turning for home to stalk the leader and kept up a bold gallop to the line to go on and score by three-quarters of a length.
It was a fine return for a horse set to target longer races after racking up a series of wins leading into last year’s summer carnival before his second in the Perth Cup.
Diamond Scene has won nine of 18 starts and over $750,000 and is a half-brother to stakes-winner Adornment. He is the second stakes-winner among seven winners from seven to race from stakes-placed Zabeel mare Jewelled.
Diamond Scene is the fourth Australian stakes-winner this season for So You Think, who is priced to please at $44,000 this spring.
