Promising Pierro 4YO Finds Form
Fourth in the Group II ATC Phar Lap Stakes on this day last year, promising gelding Les Vampire (4g Pierro x Musidora, by Rock of Gibraltar) found his way back to the winner’s circle at Rosehill on Saturday at his second run back from a lengthy spell.
The Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott trained son of Pierro was Group II placed last season and was fit and ready to go in the Benchmark 88 event over 1400m with a recent close third at Randwick on March 1 to tune him up.
Ridden by Adam Hyeronimus, Les Vampires was strong all the way to the line to win by three-quarters of a length as favourite.
With three wins and three placings from 10 starts and prizemoney just shy of $250,000, Les Vampires seems likely to return to Black Type racing during the autumn.
A $200,000 Inglis Easter purchase from the Coolmore draft, Les Vampires is a full brother to multiple Group winner and Golden Slipper place-getter Tulip and half-brother to Group III winner Sacred Eye being one of seven winners from nine to race from Group III winning Rock of Gibraltar mare Musidora.
Coolmore will offer a close relation to Les Vampires at Inglis Easter consigning Lot 234, a colt by Home Affairs from former brilliant Pierro filly Tulip, a full sister to Les Vampires.
