So You Think New Stakes-Winner

So You Think has had a hot run since the start of the month and had a new stakes-winner in Perth on Saturday where untapped three year-old Opportunistic (3g So You Think x I’m Feeling Lucky, by Bletchley Park) landed the Listed WATC Raconteur Stakes (1400m) at Bunbury at his second start.

Trained by Michael Grantham and ridden by Clint Johnston-Porter, Opportunistic won his maiden on May 28 at Pinjarra and made a smooth transition to stakes company.

Giving away valuable race experience to many of his rivals, Opportunistic surged to the line from back in the field to win by a long neck.

A $200,000 Magic Millions Perth yearling purchase for John Chalmers Bloodstock from the Lynward Park draft, Opportunistic runs in the familiar cerise and white colours of Peters Investments and has already won back more than half of his purchase price.

Bred by the Van Heemst family, Opportunistic is the second winner from two foals to race from Group III winner I’m Feeling Lucky, a half-sister by Bletchley Park to stakes-winners Utgard Loki, Baronova and Petroushka.

The immediate family has also produced Group I winner and sire Awesome Rock and goes back to an elite European female family that has produced Classic winners such as Dr Devious, Dancing Rain, Even So, Saxon Warrior and Continuous.

I’m Feeling Lucky has a yearling filly by Wootton Bassett and a weanling colt by Pierro.

Opportunistic is the 63rd stakes-winner for So You Think, who is exceptional value at a fee of $44,000.
