Opportunistic (so you think) Belmont Guineas

Unbeaten So You Think 3YO Takes Belmont Guineas

Exciting prospect Opportunistic (3g So You Think x I’m Feeling Lucky, by Bletchley Park) kept his unbeaten tag intact when making it three wins in as many starts at Pinjarra on Saturday when taking out the Listed WATC Belmont Guineas (1600m).

Trained by Michael Grantham and ridden by Clint Johnston-Porter, Opportunistic was a last start winner of the Listed WATC Raconteur Stakes and kept up the good work with another classy performance.

The talented son of So You Think settled back in the field and had to weave a path between runners before lengthening stride to power clear of quality Group winning filly Storyville, who started favourite.

Opportunistic has now won three from three earning $200,000 and change in prizemoney.

A $200,000 Magic Millions Perth yearling purchase for John Chalmers Bloodstock from the Lynward Park draft, Opportunistic runs in the familiar cerise and white colours of Peters Investments.

Bred by the Van Heemst family, Opportunistic is the second winner from two foals to race from Group III winner I’m Feeling Lucky, a half-sister by Bletchley Park to stakes-winners Utgard Loki, Baronova and Petroushka.

The immediate family has also produced Group I winner and sire Awesome Rock and goes back to an elite European female family that has produced Classic winners such as Dr Devious, Dancing Rain, Even So, Saxon Warrior and Continuous.

I’m Feeling Lucky has a yearling filly by Wootton Bassett and a weanling colt by Pierro.

So You Think has sired nine stakes-winners in Australia and New Zealand this season headed by his G1 Queensland Oaks winner You Wahng and is priced at $44,000 this spring.
