Wootton Bassett Weanling Colt Sells for $420,000
Set to return to Australia this spring, Wootton Bassett made his presence felt at the Magic Millions National Weanling Sale on Sunday with a stylish colt from Salome fetching $420,000.
Consigned by Cornerstone Stud, the colt was bought by Tom Magnier and is the third foal of stakes-placed Salome, a half-sister to Group II winner Ringerdingding.
"It's a real thrill to have Tom Magnier buy my colt and he said it might even race in the navy blue, so that itself is a real thrill for the farm,” said Sam Pritchard Gordon of Cornerstone Stud.
“Wootton Bassett looks like he's the stallion who is going to make it in this country and really go places. And I think Coolmore is certainly endorsing that by the fact that they bought him.”
The colt may be offered as a yearling again next year or possibly join the Coolmore colts fund, but either way he’s a great example of the quality thoroughbred Wootton Bassett can produce.
He had only one other weanling at this sale and the colt from South American Group II winner In Her Honour (Arg) made $220,000 for the Newgate Consignment when bought by astute Tasmanian farm Grenville Stud as a pinhook prospect.
