Wootton Bassett X Luna Mare Colt Tattersalls Book 1

2.2 Million Guineas Wootton Bassett Colt Shines At Book 1

A colt by the late Wootton Bassett was one of three 2.2 million guineas lots at Tattersalls Book 1 on Wednesday when selling to Amo Racing.

Consigned by Marlhill House Stud, the bay is a half-brother to Group 2 Beresford Stakes scorer and Group 1-placed Crypto Force, being out of the Galileo mare Luna Mare.

The Wootton Bassett-Galileo nick has been seen to great effect by the likes of Sunday's Prix Jean-Luc Lagardere winner Puerto Rico and Prix de la Foret victor Maranoa Charlie.

Amo Racing’s Kia Joorabchian said: “I was hoping [the price] would be half that. Unfortunately when you’re bidding against the other big guys, you have to really like the horse and really go for it, and you don’t have much choice.

“He’ll go to Freemason and we’ll see how he goes."

He added: "The two colts we paid a lot of money for [over the first two days] have very good pedigrees and are by very good stallions. When you’re talking about Frankel and Wootton Bassett, you’re talking about the cream of the crop. That’s really what we’re looking for.”
