Promising Wootton Bassett Filly Gains Maiden Victory
Bella Isabella (3f Wootton Bassett – Carla Bianca, by Dansili) maintained an upward curve to get off the mark in the Sunday’s fillies’ maiden at Cork.
The Dermot Weld-trained grey chased home a Group performer on her three-year-old return in February and dropped down to seven furlongs on her third career start. Ridden prominently by Chris Hayes, the Moyglare Stud homebred was asked to quicken after the two-furlong pole and was ridden to lead approaching the final furlong. She ran on well to beat the short-priced favourite by a length and three quarters, with another two and a quarter lengths back to the third.
“It was a nice performance and Chris was very happy with her,” Kris Weld commented. “She showed a very willing attitude and I thought she won nicely at the line. We'll see where she fits in as the season progresses and look for a winners' race next.”
