Promising Wootton Bassett Juvenile Off The Mark
Hawk Mountain (2c Wootton Bassett - Hydrangea, by Galileo) became Wootton Bassett's 23rd juvenile winner of the year with a comfortable success at The Curragh on Saturday.
The Ballydoyle-trained colt had finished a promising fifth on debut at the track this month and built on that effort with a front-running performance under Wayne Lordan.
A son of top-class Galileo mare Hydrangea - a full-sister to top-flight scorers Hermosa and The United States - the colt pulled a length-and-a-half clear at the line. In third was Port Of Spain (by St Mark's Basilica).
Aidan O'Brien said: "I’m delighted with Hawk Mountain and he came forward lovely from the first day. He’s a lovely straightforward horse.”
The mile contest has been won in recent years by subsequent Classic/Group 1 winners Saxon Warrior and Mogul.
Hawk Mountain was bred by Coolmore.
