Smart New Debut Winner For St Mark’s Basilica

Sassicaia (2c St Mark’s Basilica - Bellajeu, by Montjeu) got off the mark at the first time of asking when striking at Wolverhampton on Monday.

The Owen Burrows-trained juvenile was ridden by Saffie Osborne and settled in midfield before making headway from a furlong out. He kept on inside the final 100 yards to score by a neck.

Sassicaia is the 23rd first-crop winner for St Mark’s Basilica and that bunch is headed by the unbeaten Group 1 Prix Marcel Boussac heroine Diamond Necklace and Group 2 May Hill Stakes scorer Aylin.

Sassicaia was bred by V Tymoshenko and A Milovanov.
