Son Of Wootton Bassett Comes From Last To First In Listed Stakes
Wakaburn (6g Wootton Bassett - Akasti, by Holy Roman Emperor) came out on top in a thrilling finish to the Listed Prix Jacques Laffitte at Longchamp on Sunday.
Racing over nine furlongs, Aurelien Lemaitre settled the P Decouz-trained bay at the back of the field and was last as they turned for home. Shaken up passing the two-furlong pole, he was ridden a furlong later and ran on strongly to lead by a neck on the line.
It marked a first win at Stakes level for Wakaburn, who is owned by Ecurie Griezmann. The son of Wootton Bassett was bred by SAS Racing C and C Mongin.
