
Three Millionaires for Justify at Keeneland November
Horses by Justify were in high demand during the first book of the Keeneland November Breeding Stock Sale, led by his $2.3 million daughter Buchu.
Purchased by Payson Stud with River Oak as agent, the mare sold with Denali Stud carrying her first foal. Buchu was a Gr.2 winner at both two and three and retired with three wins, a second, and two thirds for $642,270 in earnings when she retired. She is the first runner out of two-time winning Galileo mare Flowering Peach. That mare is a full sister to Gr.3 winner First Minister and out of Gr.3 winner Naples Bay.This page sees stakes winners under each of Buchu’s first four dams with her granddam a half-sister to three-time Gr.1 winner Medaglia d’Oro and stakes placed Expresso Bay.
Mo Town’s Justify half-sister Justique was a very popular offering during Tuesday’s session with Whisper Hill Farm going to $2 million to acquire the mare.
A multiple stakes winning mare who was Gr.2 placed, Justique is one of two stakes winners out of Grazie Millie. The dam is three winners from four to race, the mare has also produced Mo Town’s stakes placed full sister Champagne Lady and the dam of the stakes winning West Memorial. Grazie Mille is one of six winners out of Gr.3 winner and multiple Gr.1 placed Molto Vita, whose runners included the stakes winning Jaguar Paw and Venetian Mask.In all, each of Justique’s first five dams have produced at least one stakes winner.
Rounding out Justify’s three millionaires was the stakes winning Greenfinch selling to Mt. Brilliant Farm for $1.5 million.
Offered by Taylor Made in foal to Gun Runner, she is out of the four-time Gr.1 winner Misty For Me. That mare’s seven winners include three-time Gr. 1 winners U.S. Navy Flag and Roly Poly and Gr.3 winner Cover Song in addition to the stakes placed Simply Glorious. She is also the dam of Justify’s recent Japanese winner Do Justi and to the dam of the stakes placed Lord Four Aces.Misty For Me is also a full sister to the Gr.1 winner Ballydoyle, who produced Justify’s Gr.3 winner Red Riding Hood and the stakes winning Monday. This family is strong throughout with two-time Gr.1 winning juvenile Puerto Rico out of another full sister to Misty For Me. The family also includes champion Fasliyev, three-time Gr.1 winner Desert Wine, and dual Gr.1 winner Menifee.
The 10 sold by Justify in the first book averaged $809,500 with his top weanling being a filly from the family of Gr.1 winners Materiality, Leslie’s Rose, and Annapolis selling to Wesley Ward for $725,000.
