Well-Bred Wootton Bassett Filly Delivers On Debut
The well-related Pistoia (2f Wootton Bassett – Mezzo Mezzo, by Mount Nelson) overcame a slow start to make a winning debut at Saint-Cloud on Friday.
The Pierre Groualle-trained filly was sent off second favourite for the two-year-old conditions race over seven furlongs and, after breaking slowly, soon got up to track the leaders. Improving to lead a furlong from home, Theo Bachelot’s mount overcame signs of inexperience to beat the favourite by three parts of a length.
Owned by Ecurie Alexandra Foulon and Hubert Guy, Pistoia was bred by D Smaga and Madame M Fougy-Smaga. She is a full-sister to Prix Morny runner-up Viva Chaleur (Wootton Bassett).
