Wootton Bassett Colt Lands Listed En Route To Irish Derby
Jessica Harrington has high hopes for Green Impact (3c Wootton Bassett – Emerald Green, by Galileo) who remains on target for the Irish Derby following his win in Thursday’s Listed Glencairn Stakes at Leopardstown.
Marc Chan’s homebred showed his class when beating Delacroix in the Group 2 Champions Juvenile Stakes at the track last season and finished a respectable sixth on return in the 2,000 Guineas. Sent off favourite on Thursday, the bay made all under Shane Foley and was ridden when challenged two furlongs out. He kept on well to deny Currawood by half a length, with another three lengths back to the third.
“Nobody wanted to go on and he only dosses in front,” the winning trainer commented. “When the other horse came to him it looked like he was going to go past him, but he keeps lengthening.
“All being well he’ll go straight to the Irish Derby. Shane can’t wait to see him run over a mile and a half. I know he’s by Wootton Bassett but he’s out of a Galileo mare so you’d hope that he will stay.”
