Wootton Bassett Colt Now Favourite For Norfolk Stakes

Military Code (2c Wootton Bassett – Wishfully, by Invincible Spirit) is now 6/1 favourite for the Norfolk Stakes after making it two from two at Ascot on Saturday.

Charlie Appleby’s charge made a smart debut over five furlongs at Newmarket three weeks prior and was sent off favourite to follow up over the same trip on Saturday. Making all under William Buick, the Godolphin homebred was ridden when challenged approaching the final furlong and dug deep to defy his penalty by a neck.

William Buick later commented: “We thought it was a warm race on paper with good pedigrees and expensive horses, and we’ve used his experience. He's going to improve and you have to think the royal meeting will come under consideration for him. He’s got plenty of speed for five furlongs, but I do think he will stay six.”
