Wannabe Royal (Wootton Bassett)Wins Her Maiden At Limerick

Wootton Bassett Filly Draws Clear To Maiden Victory

Wannabe Royal (3f Wootton Bassett – Lady Wannabe, by Camelot) gained a deserved win in fine style on Friday, as she drew six lengths clear in the opening fillies’ maiden at Limerick.

Placed on all her previous starts, Joseph O’Brien’s representative was well-supported when dropping back to seven furlongs and led from the break under Dylan Browne McMonagle. Pushed clear from two furlongs out, she skipped clear, leaving her rivals to fight for placings.

Representing the winning trainer, Michael Halford later commented: “Dylan gave her a lovely ride, kept it simple, went a nice early pace and she hit the line strong.

“She looks a filly who could go a further furlong in time and getting black-type will be the ultimate aim: she looks well up to that level on that performance.”

Owned by MK Mariga, Wannabe Royal is the first foal bred by Churchtown House Stud out of Group 3 winner Lady Wannabe (Camelot). Her half-brother by St Mark’s Basilica sold to Blandford Bloodstock for 325,000gns at Tattersalls Book 1 last year.
