Wootton Bassett Two-Year-Old Draws Clear To Stakes Success
Nighttime (2c Wootton Bassett – Daytime, by Frankel) confirmed the class he showed last month by following up in Sunday’s Listed Prix Roland de Chambure at Deauville.
A promising second on debut over six furlongs, the Christopher Head-trained colt successfully stepped up to seven furlongs, drawing clear at Saint-Cloud. Sent off favourite on his third start, the Wertheimer homebred raced in second until asserting from two furlongs out. He quickened smartly while his rivals gave chase, leading by three lengths on the line.
Previous winners of the race include Zellie (Wootton Bassett), who went on to win the Prix Marcel Boussac, and Head is hopeful that Nighttime can perform at Group 1 level, nominating the Prix Jean-Luc Lagardere a possible target.
