Camelot’s Los Angeles Battles Back For Third Group 1
Los Angeles (4c Camelot – Frequential, by Dansili) impressed with his attitude as much as his talent when gaining his third Group 1 success in Sunday’s Tattersalls Gold Cup at the Curragh.
The Aidan O’Brien-trained colt made a winning return to action in the Group 2 Mooresbridge Stakes earlier in the month and was sent off favourite against four other top-flight scorers on Sunday.
Tracking the leaders under Ryan Moore, he was pushed along to lead passing the two-furlong pole and though Anmaat seemed full of running when looming alongside, Los Angeles produced hidden reserves to assert soon after. He kept on well to score by half a length, with another length back to the third.
On his 11th winner of the race, O’Brien said: “Los Angeles is a good, hardy, tough horse and he's at his best when the pace is on. He'll follow any pace and he'll fight; no horse likes a fight better than him.”
“Ryan gave him a great ride,” O’Brien continued. “The plan was to come here, then go to the Prince Of Wales's and then have a look at the King George before a little rest and an Arc trial before the Arc.”
Owned by Westerberg with Coolmore partners, Los Angeles was bred by Lynch Bages Ltd and Longfield Stud. The son of Camelot is a full-brother to two Group performers, with a two-year-old half-brother by No Nay Never yet to run.
