Exciting Walk In The Park Mare Impresses On Rules Debut
Heron In The Park (5m Walk In The Park – Night Heron, by St Jovite) made the first step to justifying her lofty price tag when making an impressive rules debut at Newbury on Saturday.
The Walk In The Park mare was bought by Damian Tiernan for £280,000 after drawing clear on her first start for Donnchadh Doyle at Borris House in December. Sent to Tom George, she was partnered by Harry Cobden in the mares’ bumper and travelled strongly throughout. Quickening well two furlongs from home, as others came under pressure, she needed little encouragement to score by two and three quarter lengths. Debut winner There Runs Mary (Flemensfirth) finished second, two lengths clear of the third.
A step up into blacktype company is presumably now on the cards for Heron In The Park, who was bred by Pat Connell of Peria Stud. Her full-brother, who cost €80,000 as a foal, is now a two-year-old.
