Mahler Mare Captures First Win Over Hurdles

Run For Mahler (6m Mahler - Run For Sol, by Solon) landed a first success over hurdles with a promising display at Thurles on Thursday.

Trained by Charles Byrnes, the six-year-old had won a bumper at Down Royal in August before finishing a promising second on her hurdles bow at Listowel last month.

Ridden by Philip Byrnes, Run For Mahler was positioned prominently and came to head the long-time leader at the penultimate flight. She was strongly pressed at the last but proved too tough to pass to land a neck victory.

Charles Byrnes said: "She probably repeated her Listowel run as she was beaten by arguably a Graded mare then. She got in under a few hurdles today but it’s her first day racing over the new white hurdles, so hopefully that was the reason.

"I haven't looked at the programme but we could now have a look at getting black type before the good mares come out.”

The daughter of Mahler was bred by the Top Of The Hill Syndicate.
