Santiago Foals Achieve Strong Prices at Tattersalls Ireland
Santiago’s progeny continued to attract attention at Tattersalls Ireland this week.
Lot 409, a February-born colt out of Milanese Queen (GB), was sold by Mountain View Stud to Charles Shanahan / Glenvale Stud for €58,000. The colt, from the Queen of Spades family, is a half-brother to the winner and Grade 2 Winter Novices Hurdle third Pony Soprano.
Meanwhile, Lot 129, a colt consigned by The Hollow Farm out of the Oscar mare J’Espere, was purchased by Ian Ferguson for €50,000. The mare is a half-sister to the Grade 1 winner J’Y Vole and to Cherry Corner, dam of Lot 78 who sold earlier for €35,000. "He is a nice horse, his sire is going places," Ferguson commented, "and that is the price I had to give for him. He is going racing and won’t be back for sale."
Consignor Padraic Travers added: "I am just delighted today, the two have achieved fantastic prices, they were both bred off smallish fees. We are only down the road, about half an hour, and we have a dairy farm in North Kildare. It is great land."
Lot 477, a colt out of So Magic (FR) consigned by Cleaboy Stud & Coppice Farm, made €40,000 and was sold to F.L.F.
Irish Derby-Gr. 1 and Royal Ascot Gr. 2 winner Santiago stands at Coolmore’s Castlehyde Stud.
