Son Of Mahler Lands First Win Over Hurdles

Avalon Beach (6g Mahler - Loadsapromise, by Brian Boru) got off the mark with a comfortable display at Sedgefield on Thursday.

The Chris Grant-trained gelding had shown promise in two previous starts over flights and stepped forward to land a three-and-a-half-length success in the two-mile-and-a-furlong maiden hurdle.

Ridden by Danny McMenamin, Avalon Beach was positioned prominently before taking up the lead two flights out and winning comfortably. In third was Noble George (by Order Of St George).

Mahler's other recent winners include Down Royal maiden hurdle scorer Some Song and Thurles mares maiden hurdle winner Run For Mahler.

Avalon Beach was bred by The Beeches Stud.
