Walk In The Park Mare Maintains Perfect Record
Chosen Comrade (4f Walk In The Park – Timetostowaway, by Stowaway) made it two from two when winning the Mares Point-To-Point INH Flat Race at Tipperary on Thursday evening.
The daughter of Walk In The Park was initially trained by Gary Murphy, for whom she won a four-year-olds mares’ maiden in March, before being purchased privately by owner Paul Leech to join the Peter Fahey stable. Racing over two miles and two furlongs on Thursday, she raced prominently throughout under John Gleeson and asserted from three furlongs out. Ridden after the two-furlong pole, she kept on well to beat the favourite, fellow debut winner Katie’s Melody (Flemensfirth), by two and a quarter lengths.
“Paul (Leech) picked her out after she won her point to point, as she was the fastest winner of the day,” Peter Fahey later explained. “Gary Murphy had her, she is a nice filly and does everything well at home.
“She'll be left off for the summer now and hopefully will be competitive against the big boys over the winter. That's Paul's fourth horse with us and the other three each won black-type races.”
Chosen Comrade was bred by Mr F Whelan out of a homebred half-sister to multiple graded-winning chaser Westerner Lady (Westerner).
