Walk In The Park’s Progeny Shine at Tattersalls Ireland

Walk In The Park’s stock made a strong impression yet again at Tattersalls Ireland this week, with a number of his foals commanding significant attention from buyers.

Lot 433, a colt out of the six-time winner Posh Trish (Stowaway), consigned by Oliver Loughlin, sold for €145,000, purchased by Gerry Aherne. Posh Trish, who herself won three Listed races including a Cheltenham Listed bumper, has produced multiple high-class foals by Walk In The Park.

In pandemic times, Oliver Loughlin bought Posh Trish for the equivalent of €118,000, and she has since produced three sons by Walk In The Park. Joey Logan acquired the first foal for €85,000, later reselling him at the Derby Sale for €285,000 to Ryan Mahon and Dan Skelton. The second foal, now a two-year-old, was purchased for €100,000 by Gerry Aherne with Charles Shanahan, topping the November Foal Sale in 2023. For Posh Trish’s third foal, Aherne went to €145,000, securing the colt this week.

"We are overwhelmed at the moment," Eoghan Loughlin shared, "he is a beautiful foal and has been from day one. I have been saying that he is the best foal the mare has had and have been proved right. Best of luck goes to Gerry and the team with everything they plan on doing with him. We work hard at it all, and it is smashing when it happens."

"From the minute I saw him I thought he was an exceptional animal, by an exceptional sire, from an exceptional breeder and out of a really good mare," Gerry Aherne added, "This fellow will, I think, go down a different route, the French route. Delighted for Ollie and his family, they are great people and great supporters of us. Walk In The Park has had his most successful year on the track and in the covering shed. He is a remarkable stallion at his age."

Another standout, Lot 318, a colt by Walk In The Park out of the Listed-winning En Vedette (Astarabad), sold for €130,000 to Richard & JJ Frisby. Consigned by John Dwan’s Ballyreddin Stud and bred by Louis Vambeck, the colt’s full-sister Lune Brillante had just won a Carlisle bumper on debut for trainer Dan Skelton. Louis Vambeck commented: "We knew we were coming here with the real article. He was born on a wet February night, and he stood up half an hour later. We have something special. He has always had a lovely attitude, is a great walker, and there was never a hiccup with him since he was born. The mare breeds exceptional stock, and she is back in-foal to Walk In The Park."

Lot 595, a colt out of Fresh Fancy (New Approach), consigned by Peria Stud and bought by Sluggara Farm for €60,000, also drew praise from buyer Walter Connors: "He is a nice foal and I was delighted to buy him off Pat Connell, whom I have known for many years. I saw the colt a number of times during the year and I liked him every time I saw him. None of us know what is going to happen tomorrow, but my hope is to be around long enough to race him!"

Other lots by Walk In The Park this week sold for €85,000 , €65,000, €52,000, €50,000, etc.
