$4.5 Million for Champion Justify Daughter at Fasig-Tipton
Justify was the sire of the fourth highest offering of the Fasig-Tipton November Sale and second highest in-foal mare on Monday when Just F Y I sold to Katsumi Yoshida for $4.5 million from Hill ‘n’ Dale.
A top racemare on the track, Just F Y I won two Gr.1s as a juvenile to take home Champion 2-Year-Old Filly honors that year. The following season she finished second in the Gr.1 Kentucky Oaks and Gr.1 Ashland S. for three wins and three seconds for $1,727,530 in earnings.
The filly is out of the stakes placed Star Act, who saw her sisters provide two updates to the page. Gr.3 placed half-sister Movie Moment is the dam of this year’s stakes placed juvenile Just Asap and another half-sister is the dam of another stakes placed juvenile in Spun D M C. This is also the family of multiple Gr.1 winner Stellar Jayne and Gr.1 winner Star Billing among others.
MGW LLC went to $800,000 to purchase Justify’s multiple stakes winner Miss Justify from Thorostock.
Selling as a racing or broodmare prospect, Miss Justify is a five-time winner in nine starts for $398,464. She received plenty of updates thanks to her dam’s half-sister Holiday Soiree. That mare is the dam of Gr.1 winner Vahva, who finished second in both the Gr.1 Breeders’ Cup Filly and Mare Sprint and Gr.2 Thoroughbred Club of America S. after the catalog was finalized. Holiday Soiree also produced two other stakes performers among her six winners while Miss Justify’s dam is also a half-sister to the multiple stakes winning Marquee Prince.
The most expensive Justify weanling of the sale was an $800,000 filly purchased by Hugo Lascelles as agent.
Offered by Gainesway, this filly is a half-sister to one of the top racemares in the country in She Feels Pretty. That mare is a five-time Gr.1 winner who most recently finished second in the Gr.1 Breeders’ Cup Filly and Mare Turf only two days before this sale. The filly’s dam Summer Sweet has produced three winners from four to race overall and sold for $3 million to the same buyer later in the sale.
Summer Sweet is a three-time winning half-sister to two stakes winners and to the Gr.1 placed dam of Gr.3 winner Solo Album and stakes winner and Gr.2 placed Maedean. Her granddam is also the dam of Gr.1 winner Act One.
Horses by Justify averaged $1,064,276 for seven sold at the sale while mares in foal to him sold for up to $650,000.
