Just Feelin’ Lucky Another Justify Stakes Winner
For the third straight weekend, Justify registered a stakes winner on Saturday when Just Feelin’ Lucky (3f Justify x Phylicia, by Pierro) won the Group III Gunsynd Classic in Australia.
Making her first stakes start in this race against the boys going one mile she showed it was the right move by trainer Michael Freedman. Just Feelin’ Lucky took the lead quickly under Tommy Berry and never let it go to win by over a length for her first blacktype success.
Owned by a large group of owners that includes her buyer James Bester, Just Feelin’ Lucky has now won $240,000 with four wins and two seconds in her eight starts.
“It (leading) might be the place to be today, I suppose we'll wait and see, but she's that style of horse, you know, those Justify’s, I think they love just sort of free-rolling up in front,” said Freedman. “I had a good chat to Tommy before the race, and that was sort of the idea, if we could dictate the race from the front, and it panned out perfectly.
Bred by Catherine Remond, this is the second winner from two to race out of Phylica. That mare is a half-sister to dual Group I winner Cosmic Endeavour and out of multiple stakes winner Crevette. Crevette is out of the great broodmare Twiglet.
It has been an exceptional year for Justify, who has sired 14 stakes winners and 27 stakes performers in six different countries in 2025, led by Group I 2000 Guineas winner Ruling Court.
