Justify Colt Romps in 2,000 Guineas at Meydan
It was an impressive victory in Dubai for Justify’s Ruling Court (3c Justify x Inchargeofme, by High Chaparral) in Saturday’s Listed 2,000 Guineas at Meydan.
The Godolphin runner was one of the back runners in the field early in the one-mile turf race with just two beat as William Buick sat chilly on the colt. The race favorite moved slightly closer around the turn but looked stuck on the rail with nowhere to go during that stage.
Buick unleashed Ruling Court in the final quarter mile and the colt showed why he was thought of so highly as he bolted past most of the field to win by six lengths.
Now the winner of two of his three starts with a Group III placing to his name as well, Ruling Court is trained by Charlie Appleby for Godolphin. That owner purchased him for a sale topping €2,300,000 at last year’s Arqana May Breeze Up Sale.
Bred by Nursery Place, Manfuso, and Wilhite, Ruling Court is out of the Grade III-placed Inchargeofme. That mare is a full sister to Group I placed Johann Strauss and half-sister to Group I placed Mythical in addition to the dam of Grade III winner and Grade I placed Nagirroc.
This is the third stakes winner of the year for Justify.
