Justify’s Book 1 Offerings Led by $975,000 Filly at Keeneland
Justify is having another good year on the track and during Book 1 of the Keeneland September Yearling Sale, he was doing the same in the ring with the group led by a $975,000 filly.
Purchased by Hugo Lascelles as agent, the filly was offered by a consignor well known to Justify – his own breeder Glennwood Farm. This filly is the first out of Grade III winner Love and Thunder, who is one of five winners out of Medaglia d’Oro mare Pretty Paper.
This is a strong Glennwood family with Love and Thunder a granddaughter of Grade III winner and Grade I placed Take The Ribbon. That mare is the dam of American Pharoah’s stakes winner and recent Grade II-placed Deep Satin, Fastnet Rock’s stakes placed Take These Chains, and Grade I-placed Bookrunner.
This family also includes champion Good Magic, who finished second to Justify in the Grade I Kentucky Derby.
MGW LLC went to $800,000 to buy a Paramount Sales-offered colt out of the stakes placed Toni’s Hollyday.
Bred by Castleton Lyons, Kilboy Estate, and Gavin Tierney, the colt is a half-brother to Grade I winner Chi Town Lady and stakes winner Bergen as two of the five winners out of their dam. Toni’s Hollyday is out of the stakes winning May Day Vow, who is a half-sister to the multiple Grade III winner May Day Rose. May Day Rose produced the stakes placed Ritual, who added a placing to his resume this year at six.
Another $800,000 yearling for the Triple Crown winner was the Tommy Towns Thoroughbreds’ purchased filly out of stakes placed Wexx.
Bred and offered by Hinkle Farms, this filly’s dam is a half-sister to stakes winner and Grade 3-placed Orbolution and the stakes placed duo of Rachel’s Ready and Firehouse Red. Firehouse Red is also the dam of Grade III winner and Grade I second Draft Pick.
Stakes form runs throughout this family with Grade III-placed granddam My Rachel a half-sister to Grade I winner Jack Milton, Grade III winner Peace Preserver, and two other stakes performers. My Rachel is also one of three stakes producers out of Preserver.
Justify saw five of his yearlings sell for $500,000 or more during the first book with his 12 sold averaging $525,000 during the first two days of the sale.
