Justify’s Half Sister to Mo Town Scores in Carousel Stakes
It was a second career stakes victory for Justify's multiple graded stakes placed Justique (5m Justify x Grazie Mille, by Bernardini) on Sunday when the Cherie DeVaux trainee won the Carousel Stakes.
Shipping to Oaklawn Park for the six furlong dirt race, Justique spotted the field a few lengths early on, but quickly moved closer to settle in a striking position around the turn. It wasn’t until the stretch that she showed her best work when racing on the rail.
The mare swept past Sandy Bottom in the final furlong to take over the lead and held off Benedetta to win by half a length in the end.
Racing by C R K Stable, it was the 10th top three finish in 17 starts for Justique who has placed in seven stakes in her career.
A $725,000 Keeneland September Yearling purchase by Mayberry Farm, she was offered by her breeders John Gunther and Eurowest Bloodstock who also bred Justify and Mo Town.
In addition to Mo Town, Justique is a half-sister to Mo Town’s stakes placed full sister Champagne Lady and to the dam of the stakes winning West Memorial. They are out of the winning Grazie Mille, a daughter of Grade III winner and multiple Grade I placed Molto Vita. That mare produced stakes winners Venetian Mask and Jaguar Paw and the multiple stakes placed Panthera Once.
Grazie Mille has a 3-year-old Justify filly to come as well.
