Justify’s International Success Continues in Australia
Just a day after it was announced star Australian mare Amelia’s Jewel will be visiting Justify after being purchased for AU$3.8million, the stallion’s Just Too Fly (2c Justify x Ephemera, by More Than Ready) showed why his sire is so popular among Australians with a win in the Group III WA Sires’ Produce.
Running over seven furlong, Just Too Fly was looking to break his maiden in the race and he did just that. Turning for home, he was head-to-head with the leader and dug in for a battle. Near the line, he started edging clear to win by half a length.
Trained by co-owner Luke Fernie, Just Too Fly was registering his first win but already has an impressive record. The colt was second in both the Group II Karrakatta Palate Perth Stake in his other two stakes attempts.
“Quality animal. He always has been. It’s probably taken him a bit longer to work it out than what I thought he might’ve. His work on Tuesday was the best he’s ever worked. I said ‘he’s going to be pretty tough to beat today.’ The other one got him chasing, and he did a good job to peg it back. He’s a nice horse, and I’m really happy with him,” Fernie said.
Out of the stakes placed Ephemera, he is a half-brother to the stakes winning Pierro gelding Commander. Ephemera is a half-sister to Group II winner Running Tall and stakes winner Intrusion among others.
This was the 43rd worldwide stakes winner for Justify, whose international presence has been felt strongly in the last week with the stallion also siring Group I British 2000 Guineas winner Ruling Court last Saturday.
