Toms Magic (Justify) Wins Black Gold S

Tom's Magic Second Stakes Winner of Day for Justify

It was a second straight victory in his stakes debut for Tom's Magic (3c Justify x Dixie Chicken, by Rahy) on Saturday with a Black Gold Stakes win at Fair Grounds.

Kicking off his 2025 campaign in the 1 1/16-mile turf race, Tom's Magic was happy to stalk the leader while keeping an inside position after being steadied around the first turn. He was happy to keep that spot around the track while three horses duked it out in front of him and used that to his advantage in the stretch.

The leader into the final furlong drifted as the field reached the final sixteenth and Tom's Magic flew past him to grab the lead. He quickly built a comfortable margin, winning by two lengths at the wire.

Tom's Magic has never finished worse than second in his three starts for CJ Thoroughbreds and Mo Speed Racing.

The Michael Stidham trainee was bred in Ontario for Sean and Dorothy Fitzhenry out of the stakes placed Dixie Chicken.

That mare is the dam of seven winners from seven to race with Tom's Magic joining Dixie Moon and Guy Caballero as stakes winners. The mare is also the dam of the stakes placed duo of Pleasecallmeback and Astrological.

This was the second stakes winner of the day for Justify, who also saw son Ruling Court romp in the Listed 2,000 Guineas in Dubai on Saturday morning.
