Lake Como St Mark’S Basilica Newcastle

First Win For Promising Son Of St Mark’s Basilica

Lake Como (2c St Mark’s Basilica - Step Sequence, by Nayef) became the 22nd first-crop winner for St Mark’s Basilica when getting off the mark at Newcastle on Friday.

The George Boughey-trained colt had finished second on his most recent outing at Lingfield and duly went one better with a three-length score.

Ridden by Billy Loughnane, Lake Como was placed prominently and came to challenge the leader over two furlongs out. The pair were travelling well and went clear inside the final furlong. In third was King's English (by Sioux Nation).

Lake Como was bred by Newstead Breeding and he sold from Coolmore to Hurworth Bloodstock at this year's Tattersalls Autumn Horses in Training Sale.
