Promising St Mark’s Basilica Colt Gains First Win

Be Patient (2c St Mark’s Basilica- Dream To Reality, by Australia) landed his first win at the second attempt when striking at Newcastle on Thursday.

Trained by Ed Bethell, Be Patient had finished a promising third on debut over course and distance earlier this month and he stepped up again to win by half a length.

Ridden by Callum Rodriguez, the son of St Mark’s Basilica was held up in rear on the near side and began to make headway from a furlong out. He kept on inside the final 110 yards to win in straightforward fashion.

St Mark’s Basilica's first crop of runners are headed by the unbeaten Group 1 Prix Marcel Boussac heroine Diamond Necklace and Group 2 May Hill Stakes scorer Aylin.

Be Patient was bred by Mr and Mrs G Middlebrook and marks the 19th winner for his sire.

The 2021 European Horse of the Year is back in Australia at a fee of $38,500 and will have his first Australian 2YOs racing this season.
