Camille Pissarro Retires
Dual Group 1 winner Camille Pissarro has been retired following an injury sustained in his most recent outing, the Gr.1 Coral-Eclipse at Sandown, where he finished fourth.
“Camille Pissarro pulled a shoe at Sandown and was quite sore afterwards. We had him x-rayed, and a fissure fracture was found in his fetlock. The decision was then made to retire him. Camille Pissarro was an extremely classy colt; he had speed and class. He won the Lagardere on Arc weekend last year at two, and then he showed everyone how good he was in the French Derby. He was very classy," said his trainer.
A Classic-winning son of leading European sire Wootton Bassett, Camille Pissarro was a 1.25 million gns purchase from Tattersalls Book 1 and quickly justified his price tag. He made an immediate impact on the track, winning on debut as a juvenile, earning TDN Rising Star status, before capturing the Gr.1 Prix Jean-Luc Lagardère in decisive fashion. At three, he confirmed his class by taking the Gr.1 Prix du Jockey Club, defeating a top-class field and displaying his trademark turn of foot.
Bred by James Cloney’s CN Farm Ltd., Camille Pissarro is out of blue-hen mare Entreat, making him a half-brother to Gr.1 Commonwealth Cup victor Golden Horde and Listed winner Line Of Departure.
Further plans for Camille Pissarro will be announced in due course.
