Exciting Juvenile Camelot Colt Lands Group 3 In Style

Pierre Bonnard (2c Camelot - Sultanina, by New Approach) became the latest exciting prospect for Camelot when landing the Group 3 Zetland Stakes at Newmarket in style on Saturday.

The Ballydoyle-trained colt got off the mark on his second start at Dundalk in August and he took another step forward here to stamp himself a genuine Classic prospect for 2026.

The son of Camelot broke smartly but was soon settled towards the rear under Christophe Soumillon. He made headway on the nearside with two furlongs left to run and put the race to bed to score by a length-and-a-quarter from Endorsement (by Wootton Bassett), with fellow Camelot colt Del Maro in third.

Aidan O’Brien said: “He’s a lovely big horse and he’s still a baby who does everything easy at home. We’ve always liked him a lot and he’s a very big horse, he’s only going to improve.

“He was a little green, but Christophe was very happy with him and he’s a very straightforward horse. He’s going to improve over the winter and when Wayne [Lordan] won on him last time at Dundalk he loved him.

“I think he’ll be a Derby trial horse and we’ll go from there, but I imagine as a physical he's going to really do well over the winter months."

Pierre Bonnard was bred by Rathasker Stud.
