Albert Einstein (Wootton Bassett) Wins On Debut At Naas

Exciting Wootton Bassett Colt Unveiled By Ballydoyle

An hour after a Wootton Bassett colt was introduced as favourite for the Norfolk Stakes, another became favourite for the Coventry Stakes. The former was Military Code (Wootton Bassett), who made it two from two at Ascot, while Albert Einstein (2c Wootton Bassett – Yet, by War Front) made an impressive debut at Naas.

The Aidan O’Brien-trained newcomer was well-backed for Saturday’s six-furlong maiden at Naas and travelled strongly in second under Wayne Lordan. Drawing clear with one other with two furlongs left to race, he led inside the final furlong and kept on to beat his more experienced rival by a length and a quarter. The front pair finished 12 lengths clear of the remainder.

“He was never away and that’s the first time he’s come off the bridle,” O’Brien later revealed. “We’re delighted with him. You can see the size and power of him. He learned a bit today. We’ll see where he fits in. We always thought he was a Coventry horse, you’d like to get another run into him before.”

The Wootton Bassett colt was bred by Coolmore, who own him with Westerberg.
