Game Camelot Colt Lands Lingfield Derby Trial
The progressive Puppet Master (3c Camelot – Realtra, by Dark Angel) took another step forward on Saturday when leading home a 1-2 for Ballydoyle in the Lingfield Derby Trial.
The Aidan O’Brien-trained colt won his maiden in good style last August before finishing fourth in the Group 2 Royal Lodge Stakes and returned in late March to fill the same position in the Group 3 Ballysax Stakes. Sent off favourite for Saturday’s Listed contest, he raced in touch with the leaders under Ryan Moore and led from two furlongs out. Joined soon after by stablemate Stay True (Galileo), he rallied to the line to prevail by a short head, the pair finishing three and a half lengths clear of the remainder.
“Puppet Master is a nice horse and has always been held in high regard,” Ryan Moore later commented. “He's done well because running downhill on this ground probably wasn't ideal for him. Stay True is a lovely horse also and will be going forward. I'd be happy with both of them. They're all very good horses and there's nobody like Aidan to train a horse, so I'm very lucky.”
The Camelot colt is owned by Coolmore partners and was bred by Barronstown Stud.
