Speedy Wootton Bassett Colt Justifies Favouritism
Kansas (2c Wootton Bassett – Fire Fly, by Galileo) built on some promising performances to justify favouritism in Wednesday’s five-furlong maiden at Tipperary.
The Aidan O’Brien-trained colt placed on his first three starts behind smart stablemates, including one who subsequently earned black-type. Partnered by Wayne Lordan on Wednesday, he raced prominently throughout and was asked to quicken passing the two-furlong marker. Ridden approaching the final furlong, he ran on strongly to lead by half a length on the line.
Speaking after the race, Aidan O’Brien commented: “He's fast and the last two days he got to the front too quick but Wayne gave him a very good ride. He's a quick horse and I'd say that is going to be his trip.”
Kansas was bred by Westerberg, who own the Wootton Bassett colt with Coolmore partners.
