Starspangledbanner’s Precise Strikes For Second Group 1 In Fillies’ Mile

The top-class Precise (2f Starspangledbanner- Way To My Heart, by Galileo) added a second Group 1 win to her resume when winning the Fillies’ Mile in impressive style on Friday.

Trained by Aidan O’Brien, the daughter of Starspangledbanner had captured the Moyglare Stud Stakes at the Curragh on her previous start. Precise had also won the Group 3 Prestige Fillies' Stakes at Goodwood in August and this latest success takes her record to four wins from five starts.

Ridden by Christophe Soumillon, Precise was held up in rear on the stands' side and travelled strongly to take up the lead a furlong from home.

She duly justified favouritism on Newmarket’s Rowley Mile with an easy three-and-a-quarter-length score.

O’Brien said: “I think she’s a Classic filly. Christophe was super confident on her, she cantered at all stages in the race.

“I’d say there’s a lot more to come from her both physically and mentally. She’s just very exciting.

“They’ll both [Precise and Diamond Necklace] be trained for the Guineas, whether it'll be France, Britain or Ireland the lads will decide then seeing how they are. I don’t think we will see either of them again this year. When you get a special one you have to look after them.”

Precise was bred by Whisperview Trading Ltd.
