
Wootton Bassett Filly Wins Smart Curragh Maiden
Composing (2f Wootton Bassett – Epona Plays, by Australia) continued Aidan O’Brien’s fine record in the seven-furlong fillies maiden on the opening day of Irish Derby weekend at the Curragh.
A promising fifth on debut, the Wootton Bassett filly was partnered by Wayne Lordan in Friday’s race which Ballydoyle had won for the last three years with Lake Victoria, Ylang Ylang and Never Ending Story.
Racing prominently throughout, she asserted from halfway and was ridden approaching the final furlong. She ran on well to deny the favourite Cape Sounion (No Nay Never) by three parts of a length, with another half a length back to promising newcomer Justiciar (Wootton Bassett) in third.
Composing A filly who will get further, uncomplicated, he said she went to the line with her ears pricked, she has probably the makings of a lovely filly.
“I’m delighted with her, she came forward lovely from her last run,” O’Brien said. “She is a lovely, straightforward filly, and Wayne gave her a lovely ride.
“Wayne said she went to the line with her ears pricked and she probably has the makings of a lovely filly. She’s out of an Australia mare so she’s going to stay as well.”
A step up to stakes company may be next on the card for Composing, who is owned by Coolmore partners with Westerberg. The daughter of Wootton Bassett was bred by Renzo Forni out of multiple Group winner Epona Plays (Australia).
