Wootton Bassett’s Dorset Collects First Group Score

Dorset (2c Wootton Bassett - Snowflakes, by Galileo) landed his first Group win when taking out the Killavullan Stakes at Leopardstown on Saturday.

The Ballydoyle-trained colt was building on a fine win in the Goffs Million at the Curragh last month, while he was also fourth in the Group 1 National Stakes at the same track.

Ridden by Jack Cleary, the grey made all and showed a game attitude to deny another son of Wootton Bassett in Daytona by half-a-length. Back in third was Spangled Sands (by Starspangledbanner).

Ballydoyle representative Chris Armstrong said: "He’s like an ATM machine for Jack, he’s the horse that keeps on giving!

“In fairness he’s given him two very good rides. Today he jumped and he was a bit keener but Jack got to keep a bit of a reserve on him.

“He probably nicked it around the bend and Ronan [Whelan, on Daytona] couldn’t run him down. Ronan’s is a very nice horse.

“He takes his racing very well. I would say that’s probably him for the year but you’d never know what Aidan might think, whether he might give him one more.

“He’s going to be a lovely horse for next year.”

Dorset was bred by the Snowflakes Syndicate.
