Camelot Fillies Prove A Cut Above

A pair of Camelot fillies drew clear in Friday’s fillies’ maiden at Southwell, with Lady Vivian (3f Camelot – Ceol An Ghra, by Teofilo) coming out on top for Ralph Beckett and Valmont.

A promising fifth on debut, she improved to finish second last time out and stepped up to a mile and a half on her third start. Tracking Caspi Star (Camelot) from the break, she was asked to challenge two furlongs from home and ran on to lead inside the final furlong. Keeping on well, she led by a length and three quarters on the line, with a nine-and-a-half-length gap back to the third horse.

Speaking after the race, the winning rider commented: “I'm not sure that sitting second with plenty of daylight really suited her. She was having a good look around but once I got serious with her she knuckled down and asserted. She's won in difficult circumstances and she's going to improve.”

Bred by Paget Bloodstock, Lady Vivian was bought by Lynn Lodge Stud as a foal for 82,000gns and resold as a yearling to Alex Elliott for 160,000gns. The daughter of Camelot becomes the first winner out of her dam.
