Diamond Necklace Sparkles For St Mark's Basilica At The Curragh

Diamond Necklace (2f St Mark’s Basilica - Prudenzia, by Dansili) continued her sire's fine run of form when winning on her racecourse bow at the Curragh on Saturday.

From the first crop of the European champion two-year-old and world champion three-year-old, the Ballydoyle filly travelled smoothly throughout the seven-furlong contest and delivered a smart winning run to strike by a length and a half.

In doing so she became the first TDN Rising Star for St Mark’s Basilica.

Aidan O'Brien said: "She’s a lovely filly with a great pedigree. Her dad didn’t win a maiden for another three weeks so that’s St Mark’s Basilica for you. He went on to win the Dewhurst and how he improved from two to three was incredible.

"She could end up being one for the Fillies' Mile with maybe a run or two in between. She’s going to be lovely next year."

The filly was a second new winner in as many days for St Mark’s Basilica after Thesecretadversary captured Listed success in the Coolmore Stud Churchill Stakes at Tipperary on Friday.

Diamond Necklace had topped last year’s Arqana August Yearling Sale when selling to MV Magnier for €1.7 million.

She was bred by Ecurie des Monceaux and Skymarc Farm.
