Graded Success Over Hurdles For Exciting Daughter Of Getaway
Good Girl Kathleen (5m Getaway - Molly's Mate, by Goldmark) continued her progress over hurdles with a first Graded success in the staying novice hurdle at Cork on Sunday.
Trained by Emmet Mullins, the Getaway mare had landed a Limerick bumper in April and struck on her hurdles debut when winning at Listowel in September. She followed up with a fine second in Listed company at Cork last month.
Good Girl Kathleen was ridden by Donagh Meyler and the pair stuck to the inside rail before taking up the lead with two flights left to jump. The five-year-old coasted home to record victory by eight and a half lengths.
Mullins said: “We talked beforehand about going around the inside and I told Donagh that if it wasn't working at halfway, to change tactics so he had free rein.
“Obviously, the bends are well cut up but definitely in the straights there is a nice patch of fresh ground on the inside so we felt there was potentially an angle.
"It was always going to be risky but he said he was happy and confident all the way. It is great that it worked out.
"She's going the right way, Donagh was very confident coming and she is a mare on the up. She has a great pedigree, doesn't lack a gear either and could come back in trip."
Good Girl Kathleen was bred by Minch Bloodstock.
