Impressive Camelot Colt Targets Lockinge Stakes
French Guineas runner-up Dancing Gemini (4c Camelot – Lady Adelaide, by Australia) made an impressive return to action in the Listed Doncaster Mile on Saturday afternoon.
Trained by Roger Teal for owner/breeder Fishdance, the Camelot colt was sent off favourite on his first start of the season. Racing in touch with the leaders under Kieran Showmark, he made headway from two furlongs out and led soon after. The bay strode clear to win by three and three quarter lengths.
“I'm absolutely delighted,” said the winning trainer. “We've always had high hopes for him and I'm excited after watching him do that in a quality field. It was quite an easy watch two furlongs out.
“He's bred for further but has a blistering turn of foot. We've got some talking to do because there's the Group 2 at Sandown, but he could just go straight to Newbury. We’ll keep our feet on the floor, but he was incredibly impressive there.”
Kieran Shoemark added: “I was really impressed. I took him for a racecourse gallop two weeks ago and he gave me a proper feel. He retains all the ability he showed last year and seems to like this place. He seems to have filled out and strengthened from three to four.”
Saturday marked a second Stakes win for Dancing Gemini, having drawn clear in the Listed Flying Scotsman Stakes as a two-year-old.
