In My Teens (camelot) Impresses At Down Royal

Impressive Filly Kicks Off Treble For Camelot

To add to a super Saturday for Camelot in which Sober (Camelot) won the Queen Alexandra Stakes impressively, the sire was also responsible for three maiden winners in Ireland.

At Down Royal, In My Teens (3f Camelot – Jer’s Girl, by Jeremy) built on a promising debut to draw clear in the fillies maiden over ten and a half furlongs. The Gavin Cromwell-trained bay had finished second to the more experienced Dancing Teapot (Camelot) at Gowran earlier in the month and was sent off joint-favourite as she stepped up in trip on Saturday. Making headway on the outer with three furlongs left to race, she led a furlong later and was pushed out to score by six and a half lengths.

“Delighted with that,” Cromwell commented. “She did things right today and as time goes on, she will learn more. She's nice to look forward to.”

Bred by Mrs Noreen McManus, In My Teens is owned by JP McManus, who enjoyed a double on the card when Light Up The Dark (4f Camelot – Tiptree, by Duke Of Marmalade) justified favouritism in the mile-and-five-furlong maiden.

Ridden in touch by Scott McCullagh, the Joseph O’Brien-trained filly improved to dispute from two furlongs out and ran on well to asser by three parts of a length on the line.

“She's very straightforward,” McCullagh reported. “A fine, big filly by Camelot and a lovely mover.”

The daughter of Camelot was bred by Michelle Morris.

Meanwhile, over in Limerick, Denim And Diamonds (3f Camelot – Lustrous, by Champs Elysees) outclassed her rivals in the mile-and-a-half maiden under Ronan Whelan.

Sent off favourite, Joseph O’Brien’s representative eased into the lead from two furlongs out and went on to score by 11 lengths, with another nine lengths back to the third horse.

Representing the winning trainer, Shane Crosse commented: “Denim And Diamonds had a few nice runs in Dundalk and progressed well since January. She relished getting her toe in the ground today and you’d love the way she quickened in the last furlong.

“Her work had also been nice coming into today and Ronnie (Whelan) was very happy. Hopefully she can progress through the year.”

Owned by Blue Devil Racing, the daughter of Camelot was bred by Seven Hills and Torres Strait Bloodstock.
