Promising St Mark’s Basilica Colt Gets Off The Mark
Augustus Gloop (2c St Mark’s Basilica - Minnaloushe, by Lawman) became the latest winner for St Mark’s Basilica when winning comfortably at Newcastle on Sunday.
The James Fanshawe-trained colt was unlucky not to have struck at Lingfield when denied by just a nose earlier this month and he readily accounted for his three rivals on his third start.
Ridden by Danny Muscutt, the son of St Mark’s Basilica was in touch with the leaders and made headway to lead over a furlong out. He went on to pull two-and-a-half lengths clear of Major Neigh Sayer (by No Nay Never).
St Mark's Basilica's first crop of runners are headed by Group 2 May Hill Stakes scorer Aylin, as well as Listed-winning pair Diamond Necklace and Thesecretadversary. All three hold top-level entries this autumn.
Augustus Gloop was bred by New England Stud, A Nicoll and P Vela.
